GNTC Falls On Road, Finish with Four on the Floor.
(Powell, Tennessee) – Sophomore shooting guard Nate Humphrey connected on a buzzer-beater in the paint Tuesday night in Powell, Tennessee forcing overtime against visiting Georgia Northwestern. Foul trouble for the Bobcats left the road team with only four men on the court in the final minutes of overtime as Crown College pulled away to a 112-99 win.
After sophomore co-captain Jesse Moore (Dade) fouled out with four minutes left in regulation, it would take clutch shooting to keep the Bobcats in this game. Freshman forward Ty Bonds (Southeast Whitfield) hit on a key inside shot, as well as draining a pair of free-throws, in the final minute of the game to help guarantee the extra period of play.
Just inside the four-minute mark of overtime, Bobcats Matt Woods (Dade) and Steven Ware (Heritage) fouled out of the game, as well. With Moore already out, the departure of the other two would leave only four players on the court for the rest of the overtime period.
Bobcat shooting guards co-captain Kyle Wilson (Armuchee) and Ben Patton (Dade) were sniper-like in their range from the floor as they piled up 29 and 24 points, respectively. Patton connected on six three-pointers in the OT loss to the NCCAA program. Georgia Northwestern (3-11, 0-6) will now take a few days off before travelling to Warner Robins, Georgia to face Middle Georgia Tech. The Bobcats lost to the Titans at home in January, 75-67.
Moore would end the night with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for the Cats. Humphrey led all scorers with 28 points on the night. Crown improves to 9-11 on the season.
