Georgia Northwestern Falls In Qualifier

(Chattanooga, Tennessee) – Despite cleaning the host site Tennessee Temple’s nets for four three-pointers, 23 points in all, Bobcat sophomore co-captain Kyle Wilson (Armuchee) couldn’t narrow the gap in the end as Georgia Northwestern (0-1) would fall in the TCSGAA semi-final round against West Georgia Tech, 87-81.

The lead changed hands multiple times in the first half as the Bobcats had one final chance to knot things up before the intermission, however, the final shot wouldn’t fall and Georgia Northwestern went into the half down by three, 40-37.

Gainesville, Georgia product Martavious Pittman led all scorers with 24 point on the night to help West Georgia Tech (1-0) advance to the finals of the post-season tournament Saturday. They’ll play top-seed Middle Georgia Tech (1-0) Saturday at 5 p.m. for the TCSGAA title.

Georgia Northwestern freshman sharp-shooter Ben Patton (Dade County) got hot in the second half narrowing the gap to three as he found lightning, striking four of his five long-distance bombs on the night in the last stanza. Sophomore co-captain Jesse Moore (Dade County) tossed in 17 points in the effort.

The Bobcats will face Southern Crescent Tech (0-1) in the state conference’s third-place game at 1 p.m. on Saturday at McGilvray Gymansium on the Tennessee Temple University campus in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The four-year college is serving as the host site for the state conference tournament out of Georgia for the second consecutive year.

On a related game note, Georgia Northwestern’s Lady Bobcat basketball squad will be playing in the TCSGAA title game against West Georgia Tech at the same site Saturday at 3 p.m. This is the inaugural season of Women’s Basketball in the Technical College System of Georgia Athletic Association.

During a break in play in the qualifying round Friday night, TCSGAA Commissioner David Stephenson award TCSGAA founder and board chair, Dr. Skip Sullivan with an award honoring his years of service to the league. Dr. Sullivan and Stephenson both helped develop the league in the state of Georgia nearly five years ago.
