(Rossville, GA) – With four seasons of collegiate athletics in the books at Georgia Northwestern, season five kicks-off with home-openers for the Bobcats and Lady Cats that are sure to supply the fireworks.
The Bobcats will host four-year college Hiwassee on November 3 at the Rossville Athletic Complex (R.A.C.), the home of GNTC’s Men’s Basketball program. The Lady Cats will host Alabama power Snead State in its opener on November 5 at the Winthrop-King Centre in Rome, Georgia. The facility is on the campus of Shorter University.
The men’s and women’s schedule for Cats Country Basketball has 41 dates combined, complete with a pair of NJCAA Region Tournaments. Region XVII Tournaments for the Lady Cats and Bobcats will be held in at Emory-Oxford College in Oxford, Georgia on February 24-25 and March 1-3, respectively. The winner moves on to NJCAA District play with a chance for a birth into the NJCAA National Tournament in Loch Sheldrake, New York beginning March 15, 2012.
On October 22, the Lady Cats will be playing in a warm-up game at Model Middle School in North Georgia. The SCORE International Women’s Team out of the Dominican Republic will be their opponent. A portion of the proceeds will go to raise money for the ministry of SCORE International.
The Lady Cats come into their first full-fledged year in the NJCAA as the coaches’ pick for pre-season number one in Region XVII. Head Coach Jim Williams and his squad wrapped up 2010-11 with a conference win in the TCSGAA, Technical College System of Georgia Athletic Association. This year’s schedule is much more intense for the Lady Cats, as well as for Head Coach David Stephenson’s Bobcats.
Important dates on the Cats Country hardwood calendar this season include a Bobcat Food Drive on November 21, the Bobcat Blowout on December 3, a Toy Drive game on December 10, and a Breast Cancer Awareness game on January 10.
Two other dates the Bobcats have their eyes on will be determined soon. In January, Cats Country will be celebrating the fifth year of varsity collegiate athletics at GNTC with a special night commemorating their first year squad which earned a perfect 11-0 mark in its pilot season. Then, in February, the GNTC Athletics program will be honoring Stephenson on his 25th year of coaching.
