GNTC Stops Champion Baptist In Nashville
(Nashville, TN) – The hottest thing going in Hot Springs, Arkansas is a freshman named B.J. Likins. But despite his jaw-dropping 49 points Friday night in the Free Will Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee, Georgia Northwestern was even hotter fighting fire with fire in a 96-88 win over Champion Baptist (AR).
The Bobcats (2-0) cleaned the Music City nets for 17-of-22 from beyond the three-point line at a hard-to-believe 77-percent click. Freshmen Cats Fernando Limus, Jr. (Model) and Randy Boyd (Hixson-Chattanooga) both went five-of-six from behind the arc. Sophomore sniper Ben Patton (Dade) added four-of-five shooting from three-point land dropping 15 points on the night.
Limus and Boyd would lead the scoring surge for Georgia Northwestern with 20 and 24 points, respectively, in the semi-final round match-up.
“We played fairly well, but we had runs in both halves where we simply fell out of sync,” said Georgia Northwestern Men’s Head Basketball Coach David Stephenson. “We have to do better tomorrow if we want a chance to win this thing.”
After going 15-of-16 from the charity stripe in the season-opener eight days prior, the Cats shot a below-par 10-of-18 Friday night.
Georgia Northwestern will tip-off the tournament final Saturday at 12 noon eastern in Nashville against Trinity Baptist. The 2-0 Jacksonville, Florida college is led by 6-foot-9 senior Zach Shank.
