Georgia Northwestern To Face TN Temple Saturday
(Lookout Mountain, Georgia) – After leading by as many as 10 Friday night, Georgia Northwestern saw their lead slip away in the second half over Bryan College. Fortunately, team play would kick into gear for the Bobcats late in the game to tame the Lions, 76-71.
This opening game of the Covenant College Tournament would see the lead change seven times. The Bobcats would hold a narrow three-point lead going into the break. The Lions would quickly attempt to quiet the Cats with an alley-oop to open the second half.
Momentum would shift back and forth through the final twenty minutes. Bryan College would manage to grow their lead to as many as five with five minutes to go in the game.
That’s when sophomore shooting guard Ben Patton (Dade) decided to save his best for last as he opened fire on the tournament host Covenant College rims in the final 90 seconds draining a clutch three, as well as hitting a pair of free throws, to help grab the win. Patton scored 13 on the night.
Freshman Bobcat Randy Boyd (Chattanooga-Hixson) led all scorers with 19 points and cleaned the glass for 11 rebounds. Sophomore Bud Todd (Trion) blocked a trio of Lion shot attempts, clawed his way to 10 boards, and dropped in 13 points. Alex Miller (Gordon Central) scored 14.
Sophomore captain Matt Woods would lead the way from the point with eight assists, four steals, and nine rebounds (four offensive).
