(Winthrop-King Center, Rome, GA) – After erasing a 16-point deficit in the second half, Georgia Northwestern captain Matt Woods would cap things off with a basket and bonus in the final minute of play to knot things up at 58-all. The rally would force the first overtime game of the season for the Cats in this NJCAA Region XVII match-up with Southern Crescent Tech Tuesday.
The lead would change five times in the extra five minutes of play. Down three with four seconds remaining, newly activated freshman Bobcat Brandon Pratt would race the ball the length of the court and fire an outlet pass to leading scorer Alex Miller who launched a three-pointer at the buzzer. The stab at the rim would fall just shy of its mark. The visiting Tigers escaped with the win, 70-67.
Miller (Gordon Central) led the Bobcats with 19 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocks. Southern Crescent (3-13, 1-1) guard Noel Vladimir would lead the Southern Crescent charge with 21 points on the night.
GNTC (6-9, 0-4) travels across the Peach State to Warner-Robbins to battle Middle Georgia Tech. This is a rematch of closely fought game held at The R.A.C. before Christmas break. The Titans escaped the Cats Den with a four-point win in round one.

In the nightcap, the Lady Cats were the headliner on “Pink” night at the Winthrop-King Centre. Georgia Northwestern would jump out to an early lead they’d never relinquish as they’d polish off Southern Crescent Tech by seven, 52-45.
GNTC (2-9, 2-2) would led by sophomore forward Jessica Williams who would drop in 13 points, clean the glass for 13 boards, and make a trio of swipes against the visiting Lady Tigers. Fellow sophomore forward Kelsie Philpot had a breakout night as she led the way with 15 points in the win.
Tiger shooting guard NeNe McDonell would lead the losing effort with 19 points. With the Lady Cats at .500 in Region XVII, they continue to improve their seeding for the post-season region tournament February 24-25. The Lady Cats will take on Middle Georgia Tech on Saturday, as well. They won their first round with the Lady Titans at The R.A.C. by a baker’s dozen, 59-46.
