Bobcats, Lady Cats Host Freewill Thursday At The R.A.C.

(The R.A.C., Rossville, GA) – For the first time in college history, the Georgia Northwestern Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams are talking about post-season play.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats will travel to Oxford, Georgia in a few weeks for their spots in the NJCAA Region XVII Qualifier. Oxford College at Emory University will host the three-day event. The host team currently holds the top seed going into the post-season date. In preparation, the Bobcats (7-14, 0-6) and Lady Cats (3-14, 3-3) are facing a tough non-region schedule to close out the regular schedule in preparation.

“If either these teams find a way to win and get out of the region, the NJCAA District Qualifier takes place in North Carolina,” said Georgia Northwestern Men’s Head Basketball Coach David Stephenson. “But we’d have to find ways to close out games against our tough region opponents at Williams (Emory-Oxford Gymnasium.)”

The Women’s Region XVII Tournament takes place February 24-25. The Men’s Region XVII Tournament takes place March 1-3.

This Saturday at The R.A.C. (Rossville Athletic Complex), Georgia Northwestern Technical College will be honoring Stephenson for 25 years of coaching basketball to student-athletes across the region. “He’s coached on just about all levels of play and has being doing it well for 25 years,” said Georgia Northwestern Technical College Provost Jeff King. “But we are proud of him because, first and foremost, he’s helping bring up young men through athletics.”

The game versus NJCAA Region XVII leaders Emory-Oxford tips-off at 2 p.m. An honor will be given to Stephenson at halftime of the region contest. All GNTC’ers attend free with i.d.
