Williams, Cole On All-Second Team

February 23, 2012

(Rome, GA) – It’s not every day that a 5-foot-2 college sophomore sets the bar higher than the rest. The National Junior College Athletic Association has selected Georgia Northwestern point guard Mia Morrow as a member of their Region XVII All-First Team roster.

The Rome High School alum averaged ten points, six assists, and three steals a game during Georgia Northwestern’s 2011-12 women’s basketball season.  Morrow set a college record this season connecting on six three-pointers in a single game in a match-up with Toccoa Falls College just nine days ago.

Her best offensive outing of the season took place against Freewill Baptist College (TN). The Lady Cats co-captain rang up 23 points, had 10 assists, and five steals. “Mia is a phenomenal student-athlete and really deserves the honor,” said Georgia Northwestern Women’s Head Basketball Coach Jim Williams. “She really brings an x-factor the court that we can’t do without.”

Georgia Northwestern also had a pair of NJCAA Region XVII All-Second Team honorees. 5-foot-11 sophomore Jessica Williams from Cherry Log, Georgia and freshman shooting guard Emily Cole of Adairsville, Georgia. “Jessica and Emily are starting to gel together at just the right time,” said Williams. The inside-outside game they bring is one of the things we’ll need to have a chance in the post-season.”

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Georgia Northwestern will face Middle Georgia Tech for the NJCAA Region XVII title. The game will be played at Emory-Oxford College in Oxford, Georgia. The winner moves on to the NJCAA District Round. The site and opponent will be determined this weekend. The winner of Saturday’s game will play next on March 3.

The Lady Titans from Warner Robins, Georgia fell to the Cats on December 10 at The R.A.C. (Rossville Athletic Complex), 59-46. Middle Georgia would return the favor January 14 with a 22-point victory over Georgia Northwestern, 62-40.
