(Knoxville, Tennessee) – Just one week removed from the Bobcats overtime win at home versus Johnson University, Georgia Northwestern hit the road for Knoxville, Tennessee Friday night for a rematch. The two programs went down to the wire only to see Johnson take the win, 84-81.

Freshman Bobcat guard Richard Olsen led Georgia Northwestern with 17 on the night. Evangels guard Tyler Griffin led all scorers with 26.

A tale of two halves was the theme for the non-region game for the Cats as they would win the first half and lose the second. Fast cuts through the paint and good work on the boards put the Cats up by five at the intermission, 42-37.

In the second half, the Evangels did what they do best. A blocked shot by Kelechi Ibe sent the Evangels on a transition down the court which lead to their first lead at the 12-minute mark, 55-53.

Bobcat freshman guard Hunter Ivester (Trion) fouled out early, leaving the game with 10 minutes to play. The Cats sophomore posts Alex Miller (Gordon Central) and Bud Todd (Trion) also saw foul trouble as they headed in to the final four minutes of the game with four fouls a pop.

The lead went back and forth down the stretch as it changed hands eight times in the second half. With one minute left on the clock, a turn-around jumper by Olsen gave Georgia Northwestern the lead, 81-80. Johnson returned the favor hitting a 19-footer with 35 seconds left in the game taking back the lead, 82-81.

With the ball in hand and the clock on their side, the Bobcats would turnover the ball with nine seconds remaining. A final foul led to a pair of free throws and a three-point lead for the Evangels in the final seconds. A last second heave by freshman guard Tavish Reynolds to tie the game would miss its mark to the right.

Georgia Northwestern (4-6) will play tonight (Monday) on the road at Sewanee at 8 p.m. This is a rematch of the November 19 game at The R.A.C. in which Miller sank a 51-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to steal the win for the Cats.
