Georgia Northwestern Takes Four-Year To The Wire
(Rossville, Georgia) – Georgia Northwestern took four-year program Crown College (TN) to the wire late Monday night before falling in the tie-breaker and losing the night cap of a tri-match, three games to two.
The Lady Cats tipped-off their home schedule for the 2013 Intercollegiate Volleyball season at the Rossville Athletic Complex (R.A.C.) tonight by hosting the three-team event versus Covenant College (GA) and Crown.
In the tri-match opener versus Covenant College, the Lady Cats hoped to find their first game win of the young season, just as they had against the Lady Scots early in 2012 at The R.A.C.
However, solid play at the net and breaks that went the way of the Covenant JV squad led to a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Cats, 20-25, 22-25, 21-25.
Big plays on the front line led by freshman Lady Cat Victoria Sprouse (Ringgold) helped keep things close in all three games of the match. “We’ll be bringing four freshman to the floor every night this season,” said Georgia Northwestern Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Carrie Powell. “We will have to work hard to find our points as this season moves on. We’ll get it done.”
An ace from sophomore Fallon Larmon (LaFayette) forced a 19-all tally and a Covenant time-out late in game three. But the Lady Scots would close things out on a 6-2 run to take the final game.
In the night cap, the Lady Cats would wake-up just in time to take the visiting Royal Crusaders out of Powell, Tennessee to the wire. Georgia Northwestern would fall to the NCCAA program 16-25, 25-13, 25-18, 12-25, 7-15.
The Lady Cats (0-5) next take to the hardwood Friday night at The R.A.C. versus Hiwassee College (TN). Match time for the non-region match-up is 8 p.m.
Georgia Northwestern is a member of the NJCAA, the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association, and a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
