Georgia Northwestern Gears Up For Crusader Invitational

(Dayton, Tennessee) – Freshman Lady Bobcat Casey Chapman (North Murray) led the way for Georgia Northwestern Monday night with four kills and an ace. However, Bryan College would handle the Cats, 18-25, 18-25, 12-25.
Georgia Northwestern (4-8) looks to climb back towards the .500 mark this weekend with an impressive showing at the Crusader Invitational at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Match-ups were still to be determined as of press time. The Lady Cats are expected to face-off with the host Lady Crusaders in the event. Tennessee Temple took a best-of-five match with the Cats on September 16 at McGilvray Gymnasium.
The Lady Cats will have five matches remaining after the invitational. Topping the list of dates is a road trip to Huntsville, Alabama to take on Oakwood University. The Lady Ambassadors took a best-of-five match on their home court, three games to one, last October against the visiting Cats.
“Our tallest player last year in the same match was barely 5-foot-7. This year, we’ve had a chance to recruit and the front line is much more of a force,” said Georgia Northwestern Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Carrie Powell. “We are definitely bringing size that will force other programs to change the way they attack us. It also allows us to put our two returners from last year in their true positions.”
5-foot-4 Candice McClain led the way in the same match last year with 13 kills from the front row. Now, McClain, and 5-foot-1 Fallon Larmon will have the chance to defend the back line as 6-foot-1 Holly Mount, 5-foot-11 Layna Jenkins, 5-foot-10 Casey Chapman, and 5-foot-10 Victoria Sprouse team up to man the front line of the Lady Cat attack in 2013.
