(Madisonville, TN) – Freshman Lady Cats Casey Chapman (North Murray) and Victoria Sprouse (Ringgold) lit up the Lady Tiger hardwood at Hiwassee College Monday night as Georgia Northwestern swept the Tennessee four-year program, 25-21, 25-14, 25-19. Chapman and Sprouse drove home six and eight kills respectively in the best-of-five set.
Fellow first-year standout Layna Jenkins (Ridgeland) dropped down five kills shots and served up a pair of aces in the straight sets win over Hiwassee at Youell Gymnasium in Madisonville, Tennessee. Sophomores Candice McClain (LaFayette) and Fallon Larmon (LaFayette) led the way from the road service line, each serving up a trio of aces. McClain added four kills and four assists.
Georgia Northwestern started the 2013 campaign with five straight losses. But over the past month, Head Volleyball Coach Carrie Powell and her squad righted the ship and have went 6-7 ever since the slow start.
The Lady Cats (6-12) look to close out 2013 at home Tuesday night with a win over the biggest rival on their schedule, Oakwood (AL) University. The Lady Ambassadors grabbed a best-of-five match, three-games-to-two, from Georgia Northwestern in Huntsville on October 7. A win would give the Lady Cats a .500 home mark on the season.
The season-finale begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the Rossville Athletic Complex (R.A.C.) in Rossville, Georgia. Adult admission is five dollars. Three dollars for students. All GNTC’ers receive free admission with i.d.
