(Nashville, TN) – Sophomore Bobcat Tavish Reynolds (Calhoun, GA) led the way for Georgia Northwestern as they would take their first win of the 2013-14 season in the Music City Friday night, 63-56. Georgia Northwestern’s Reynolds would drop in 16 points thanks, in part, to four-of-nine shooting from beyond the three-point-line in Welch College’s home-opener in Nashville, Tennessee this weekend.
Up by as many as 22 points, the Cats would see their huge road lead quickly diminish in the second half. With just under three minutes remaining, the Flames (1-2) would scorch their home nets to bring them within four points of the visiting Bobcats. Welch would fall short as the Bobcats (1-1) would hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Welch would struggle in their loss hitting on only three of 19 shots from beyond the arc in the NCCAA vs NJCAA match-up. Sophomore Bobcat Richard Olsen (Calhoun, GA) would drop in 11 points, pull down six boards, and grab two steals. Fellow sophomore Hunter Ivester (Trion) would clean the road glass for 11 boards, swipe five steals, dish out four assists and block a shot in the win. Freshman Devin Watkins (Cedartown, GA) would add eight points and pull down seven rebounds.
Georgia Northwestern will continue their road trip gauntlet on Monday night as they travel to Dayton, Tennessee to take on Bryan College. The Cats will turn around and head to Atlanta Tuesday to battle with Andrew Young. The tough road stretch ends on Thursday as they take the short trip across North Georgia to Waleska for the college’s first-ever match-up with Reinhardt College.
