Georgia Northwestern Drops Warren Wilson (NC)
(Winthrop-King Centre, Rome, Georgia) – After starting the 2013-14 campaign on a three-game slide which consisted of road games in the Volunteer State, the NJCAA Region XVII defending champs returned to Rome, Georgia Thursday night and clawed their way to their first win of the season.
Sophomore All-Region First-Teamer Kiarra Parks (Cleveland, TN) led the way with 19 points in the Lady Cats win over NAIA program Warren Wilson, 70-63. Georgia Northwestern (1-3) led by 10 at the break, 35-25. However, 17 points off of Lady Cat turnovers kept the Tar Heel State squad close down the stretch.
Freshman Charron Woodley (Rome, GA) added 10 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore outside threat Sierra Smith (Armuchee, GA) went three-of-five from beyond the arc in her 11 point outing.
Freshman 6-footer Caroline Long (Rome, GA) grabbed seven of her own points, but it was the three blocked shots that got Warren Wilson’s attention.
The Lady Owls (1-2) Dani Henderson led all scorers dropping 25 points through the Winthrop-King Centre nets. Former Gordon Lee High School (Chickamauga, GA) standout Lilvia Bradley left her mark, as well. The 6-foot sophomore added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Georgia Northwestern continues to run their traditional non-region gauntlet on Monday night as they head to perennial NJCAA power Gadsden State in Gadsden, Alabama. Warren Wilson returns to North Carolina to host Judson College on Saturday.
Georgia Northwestern is a member of NJCAA Region XVII, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, and an equal opportunity institute.
