(Dalton, Georgia) – Beyond your traditional avenues of financial assistance to go to college, Northwest Georgia residents ages 19-to-21 may be eligible for extra aid in 2014.

Twenty-year-old Jeanette LeQuire learned of the benefits first-hand when she was learning to juggle a new baby and her future education. LeQuire learned about the Youth Success Academy (YSA) at Georgia Northwestern Technical College and enrolled in January 2013.

A graduate of Ringgold High School (GA), LeQuire earned academic honors while enrolled in Georgia Northwestern’s Health Information Technology program. With guidance from the YSA, located on the Walker County Campus of Georgia Northwestern Technical College, LeQuire managed to earn a diploma and an associate’s degree in Health Information Technology. “When I found out that they would help me pay for childcare, I quickly applied,” said LeQuire. “I was shocked to find that there was a program like this for young people struggling to pay for college.”

LeQuire recently moved from Ringgold, Georgia to Whitfield County, Georgia to be a little closer to her brand new career with Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, Georgia. “The YSA helped me financially, emotionally, and academically during my time at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, and I’m so proud to say I graduated with their help,” said LeQuire.

If you are out of high school and between the ages of 19 and 21, you may be able to receive funding to assist in covering the cost of fees, books, supplies, tuition, and other related expenses at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Some of the training and workshops that students can take advantage of include leadership skills, communication skills, fundamental work ethics, preparing a resume, career exploration and counseling, teamwork skills, and emphasizing productivity.
