The Youth Success Academy (YSA) on the Floyd County Campus of Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) is helping out-of-school youth get their GED, start college with many expenses covered, and begin their path to a successful career.

The program is open to 16 to 21-year-old individuals that wish to attain a GED and a technical education degree. It also offers many specialized services that will help students advance to further career training and find employment.

“When I first started the Youth Success Academy I was super nervous getting back into school,” said Michelle Daniel, a student in GNTC’s Health Care Assistant program. “I had not been in school for two years so starting back was a big achievement for me.”

Daniel, a resident of Rome, says that the Youth Success Academy helped her learn many skills outside of basic academics and prepare her for post-secondary education and a career in healthcare.

“Since graduating with my GED in December I have been a full time student at GNTC,” said Daniel. “I am currently a certified nursing assistant and I am planning to graduate with a Health Care Assistant certificate and pursue a diploma in Nursing.”

Students ages 19 to 21, who obtain their GED through the program and enroll at GNTC, may also be eligible for having many costs covered including part of their tuition, application and technology fees, books, supplies, and other expenses.

Some of the training and workshops that students can take advantage of include leadership skills, communication skills, fundamental work ethics, preparing a resume, career exploration and counseling, teamwork skills, and emphasizing productivity.

“YSA helped set my path to the future – now I’m paving my own road to success,” said Daniel. “Being a mother of two boys has been the best motivation for me.”
The Youth Success Academy is located on the Floyd and Walker County Campuses of GNTC. The hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
