2017 SkillsUSA National Collegiate Welding Champion GNTC’s Ryan Fincher of Cedartown, Georgia.

(Louisville, Kentucky) – Cedartown, Georgia’s Ryan Fincher became Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s first-ever national champion at the National SkillsUSA Competition in Louisville, Kentucky tonight.

Fincher took home top honors in the competition’s Welding category this week at the National Skills and Leadership Conference in the Bluegrass State.

Placing nationally for GNTC were Bobcat teams in the Chapter Display and Career Pathways categories. Taking home the bronze from the Chapter Display team for GNTC were Brandy LeVan (Rock Spring, Georgia), Melisa Fajardo (Dalton, Georgia), and Kate Hendricks (Rock Spring, Georgia.)

Also grabbing a third place finish at nationals was GNTC’s Career Pathways team. Beck Maxwell (Euharlee, Georgia), Melvin Mitchell (Cartersville, Georgia), and Dusty Powell (Aragon, Georgia) make up the bronze medal entry from GNTC.

Congratulations to all of our nationally-recognized winners from the 2017 SkillsUSA Competition. More than 16,000 people from across America took part in the competition on either the collegiate or high school level this week.
