19th Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament Raises More than $16,000 for GNTC Students

More than $16,000 was raised to provide funding and financial aid to Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students during the 19th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament held at Barnsley Resort in Adairsville on Thursday, Oct. 26.

 

James Derward Powell served as the president of GNTC from 1987-1994.

 

The tournament was sponsored by Balfour Beatty Construction; Fox Systems, Inc.; The HON Company; Mohawk Industries, Inc.; and Shaw Industries Group, Inc.

 

Teams that participated included: Balfour Beatty Construction, Bank of LaFayette, Coca Cola Enterprises, Dalton Utilities/OptiLink, Flegal Insurance, Fox Systems, Inc., Georgia Power, The HON Company, Silver Comet Furniture, Mohawk Industries, Inc., Nesbitt Consulting, Powell Team, Rehab Techniques, Ringgold Telephone Company, Roper – Kay Henderson, Team “507,” and United Community Bank.

Gerald Underwood, of Team Roper, is an alumnus of GNTC’s Walker County Campus.

The J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into two flights and prizes were awarded to the first place teams in each flight.

1st Flight – 1st Place:

The HON Team, consisting of: Clay Cooper, Matt Hall, James Lanier, and Trevor Peek.

2nd Flight – 1st Place:

Balfour Beatty Team, consisting of: Chuck Greenway, David McBurnett, Robbie Nash, and Chuck Walker.

Dylan Trovillion won “Closest to the Pin” and Charles Walker won “Longest Drive.”

Chuck Wright was the winner of the Ball Drop Raffle.

Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family:

Danny Johnston, Todd Johnston, Jim Powell, and Tripp Powell.

– More than $14,000 was raised to provide funding and financial aid to Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students during the 18th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament held at Barnsley Resort in Adairsville on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

 

The tournament was sponsored by the Foundation at GNTC. James Derward Powell served as the president of GNTC from 1987-1994.

 

Teams that participated included: Bank of LaFayette, Cedarstream, Coca Cola, Dalton Utilities, Five Star Food, Flegal Insurance, Fox Systems, Georgia Power, The HON Company, International Paper, Jay LeGrande Team, Miura America, Mohawk Industries, Nesbitt Consulting, Rehab Techniques, Powell Team, Ringgold Telephone Co., Southeastern Mills, Team 507, and United Community Bank.

 

The J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into two flights and prizes were awarded to the first place teams in each flight.

Kevin Black won “Closest to the Pin” and Andreas Gjesteby won “Longest Drive.”

 

Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family: Blake Cescutti, Charlie Powell, Jim Powell, and Tripp Powell.

Georgia Northwestern to Hold 18th Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament

The Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) Foundation is sponsoring the 18th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament at Barnsley Resort in Adairsville on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Proceeds from the tournament will provide funding and scholarship assistance to GNTC students.

 

James Derward Powell served as the president of GNTC from 1987-1994.

 

Registration is now open and is $600 per team with up to four people on a team. The team fee includes boxed lunch, goody bag, 18 holes of golf with cart, and entry for door prizes. Hole sponsorships are available for $200 or $150 when purchased with a team entry. Tent Sponsorships are also available for $500. Registration is limited and is on a first-come first-serve basis.

 

Tournament sponsors are Fox Systems, Inc.; The HON Company; Mohawk Industries, Inc.; and Shaw Industries Group, Inc.

 

Prizes will be awarded for first in flight, longest drive, and closest to the pin.

 

On the day of the tournament, registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. followed by announcements. Tee Time begin will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by lunch, awards, and a ball drop after the tournament is over. Tickets are available now for the ball drop.

(Rome, Georgia) – The Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) Foundation is sponsoring the 17th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome on Thursday, Oct. 22. Proceeds from the tournament will provide funding and financial aid to GNTC students.

Registration is $500 per team with up to four people on a team. The team fee includes boxed lunch, goody bag, golf hat, 18 holes of golf with cart, post tournament pizza dinner and drinks, and entry for door prizes. Registration is limited and is on a first-come first-serve basis.

Prizes will be awarded for first in flight, longest drive, and closest to the pin.

On the day of the tournament, registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by announcements at 12:15 p.m. Tee Time begin will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a pizza dinner and awards after the tournament is over.
