Attention: Administrators, Faculty, Instructors, Students, Friends, and Guests

This spring term, the Culinary Arts Program is teaching International Cuisine (CUUL 2140). This means, once again, the culinary arts students will be planning and preparing a wide variety of international cuisines for a buffet.

We are asking GNTC staff, students, family, or friends to participate in joining us at the Woodlee Culinary Arts facility for International Cuisine buffets. We are planning to serve a minimum of 45 patrons or a maximum of 65 patrons. The cost for the meal will be $6.00 for lunch; which is a real bargain! This will cover the cost of the groceries being consumed. (Note: only personal check or cash will be accepted).

We are asking all guests to arrive between 12:15pm – 12:25pm for lunch service. Lunch service will begin promptly at 12:30pm and will conclude around 1:30pm. Reservations are required. Guests without reservations will be seated after all reserved guests have been sat, then based on first come, first serve until we sell out. If you need to make a reservation, you may contact Chef Greg Paulson at extension 6880. (Note: If you plan on making a reservation, please make sure you do attend!) Thank you. Your table will be reserved and be considered part of the 50 patrons. Guest will be seated in the dining rooms or on the new Woodle deck, weather providing!

Remember, the meals are not àla carte, but a planned buffet.

The following banquet days/dates/times are listed:

Lunch Service: 12:30pm

Tuesday, January 13    &  Friday, January 16            Cuisine of Mexico

(Calhoun, Georgia) – A year-long construction project designed to teach how to build homes in an Earth-friendly way reached completion November 20 on Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Gordon County Campus in Calhoun, Georgia. Leaders from across the region, participating vendors, and college administration were on hand for the ribbon-cutting of the new EarthCraft home built at the college.

GNTC Construction Management Director Donny Holmes led the project from day one. “It’s part of why I love to teach technical education,” said the 2014 finalist for the Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year award in the state of Georgia. “I love to communicate my knowledge and experiences of construction to those wanting to learn so that they, in turn, can experience pride and accomplishment by building Georgia.”

Actually, two model houses were built by a crew which included GNTC students as part of the Residential Energy Efficiency Technology program. One is built under the standard specifications with common air leaks and traditional construction, old appliances, water heater, and an 80-percent efficient gas furnace. The other house is built under new green and energy efficient specifications using new materials and techniques with EarthCraft House ratings.

The EarthCraft.org website states, “The EarthCraft Program was created in 1999 as a partnership between the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and the Southface Energy Institute to teach builders the latest methods of resource and energy-efficient construction.”

The houses will be used as part of the Residential Energy Efficiency Technology program. Students will be using both houses as research for emissions and energy savings.  The students in the program will be trained in Blower Door and Duct Blaster testing as well as BPI testing requirements. They also will be doing carbon monoxide monitoring on appliances and HVAC equipment. The project is intended to teach students the science of building and how houses work and breathe.

For more information, contact Donny Holmes, director of GNTC’s Construction Management program and Residential Energy Efficiency Technology program, at 706-378-1733 or via email at dholmes@gntc.edu.

Election Day Facts and Spring Semester

vote

Fun Fact of the Day on this Election Day!

November was selected in America as the month to hold major elections because harvest seasons were complete by then.
The first Tuesday of November was selected as Election Day because initially many people had to travel the day before to reach the polling place in time. Since most people did not travel on Sunday for religious reasons, they did not want elections to be on a Monday.

Bobcat Fact of the Day: Application and Testing Deadline for spring semester is November 25. (gntc.edu)
